15th Anniversary of the Polish Club

By Latrobe City Council - 1st April 2005 - Back to News

The 2005 Gippsland Innovation Festival program has been finalised and organisers are now making final preparations for Australia’s largest regional innovation festival with nearly 40 participating events. Events will feature innovative activities that celebrate the creativity and inventiveness of Gippslanders from 27 April – 16 May.

Mr Peter Westfield, Chairperson of the Australian Innovation Festival, said that Gippsland should be congratulated on the development of a terrific program. "It makes a very positive statement about the vibrancy of the region and we are delighted to see Gippsland strongly represented in the Australian Innovation Festival," Mr Westfield said.

Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer and Chairperson of the Gippsland Innovation Festival, Paul Buckley, said it was fantastic the way Gippslanders have come together to support this year’s Festival. "We believe that as many as 10,000 people will attend participating events," Mr Buckley said.

The theme of this year’s festival is ‘Celebrating Innovation in Regional Life’.

"It is all about promoting a positive sense of diversity within the community and recognising the importance of economic, environmental and community development in this region’s future," Mr Buckley said.

One of this year’s new events is the Gippsland Inventors Competition being held at Monash University, Churchill on 15 May. The competition will feature new inventions created by people from across Gippsland.

Mr Buckley added that the Innovation Festival is about coming together as a community and as a region, and celebrating the achievements and activities of local residents.

"We are pleased with the level of local involvement in the program and encourage residents to participate in Gippsland Innovation Festival events in the Latrobe Valley as well as in neighbouring municipalities," Mr Buckley concluded.

Over 5000 programs will be distributed throughout the region within the next fortnight. People can also log on to www.innovation.gippsland.com to find out more about the Festival; or contact Chris Buckingham, Gippsland Innovation Festival organiser, telephone 0417 159 733.
