#BuildingLatrobe
A call for support for #BuildingLatrobe.
Latrobe City Council is calling on Monash candidates in the 2019 federal election to commit $15M funding for Stage 2 of the Moe Activity Centre Plan.
The community is being urged to show their support and join Council in bringing this priority project to the attention of candidates by signing a campaign postcard.
A commitment of $15M would enable Stage 2 to be completed — and with it bringing important economic and social benefits to the region.
Stage 2 includes:
- Car parking
- Youth Precinct
- Events Space
- Rail Trail Extension
- BBQs and shelter
- Moore Street Shared Zone
Community members can show their support for the project by signing #BuildingLatrobe postcards between now and the federal election on 18 May; writing a chalk message on the Civic Plaza at the Moe Service Centre & Library; and adding the campaign frame to their Facebook profile.
The Mayor and Ward Councillors will hand deliver the completed postcards to the candidates as an expression of the level of community and Council support that exists for this project.
Quotes
Latrobe City Mayor Graeme Middlemiss: Council has a vision for the entire precinct and we want to see it delivered. Only with completion of Stage 2 can we expect to see the full social and economic benefits to flow to the Moe community and the broader region. There was always understanding that Stage 2 would be funded by the Federal Government.
West Ward Councillor Sharon Gibson: The Moe Library and Service Centre has been a wonderful start but I understand the community’s growing frustration as we’ve been waiting too long for the next phase of this revitalisation project."
West Ward Councillor Brad Law: I want to hear a firm commitment to making Stage 2 become a reality for Moe. The Latrobe community want it, the business community need it and the federal candidates who want this community’s votes can make it happen.
