Wish Comes True For Little TikyaIf you believe hard enough, wishes really can come true. Five-year-old Tikya Walker wished hard to visit her Nanna in Cairns and on Tuesday, By Latrobe City - 18th November 2010 - Back to News the fairies from the Make a Wish Foundation visited her at Carinya Preschool in Morwell to grant her special wish.
Tikya’s parents, Clint and Kylie were at the preschool to see their daughter receive her wish.
"Tikya was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 15 months and we were put into contact with the Make a Wish Foundation. To make sure that Tikya could appreciate her special wish, we waited until she was old enough to understand and remember the occasion. We fly to Cairns in a couple of weeks to spend a week visiting her Nanna, and exploring the area.
"The visit from Sharon and Heather, the fairies from the Gippsland branch of the Make a Wish Foundation, was wonderful. The two fairies brought some morning tea, including a delicious cake, balloons featuring Tikya’s favourite cartoon character – Scooby Doo, and they wrote a poem about all the things she likes and her special wish. They dressed Tikya in a pink fairy outfit and all the children at the preschool were given star wands to hold as Tikya received her wish," Mr Walker explained.
Latrobe City’s manager child and family services, Jodie Pitkin, said that the preschool was delighted to host the special ceremony.
"This was a very special occasion for Tikya and her family. It was a great opportunity for her classmates and teachers at preschool to share the moment with her. The fairies included the other children in the presentation and entertained them with the poem and the morning tea. It was a very memorable occasion for everyone and we wish Tikya and the Walker family all the best for their very exciting trip to Cairns," Ms Pitkin said.
