2005 Great Endeavour RallyBy Wellington Shire Council - 19th July 2005 - Back to News Young basketballers aged 6 years and over will be able to attend an All Star Two Day Basketball Clinic featuring some of Australia’s best female players at Bishop Phelan Stadium, St Patrick’s School in Sale on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 September 2005.
Wellington Shire Council recently announced Gippsland will again host a major pre-season Women’s National Basketball League tournament featuring top Australian sides and the New Zealand national team.
The clinic will follow the tournament, which will be played at the stadium from 16 to 18 September with Maffra and Heyfield also hosting games.
WNBL Championship player Jess Bibby will lead the clinic, which will also include WNBL All Star 5 guard and WNBA Connecticut Sun draftee Erin Phillips and Athens Olympian Natalie Porter.
Wellington’s Mayor Peter Gault said: "The All Star clinic is a tremendous opportunity for players to further develop their skills in an elite atmosphere. During the two days participants will improve their jump shot techniques, individual offence and defence in a fun-filled environment. All children will receive a show bag and competition prizes.
"This is great encouragement for our young people to lead a healthy lifestyle and I congratulate the league and the players on this initiative."
Jess Bibby will be visiting a number of local schools during the week commencing the 5 September.
