Weekly Bulletin – Monday, May 12, 2003Mark the calendar By Monash University - 12th May 2003 - Back to News More than 100 Monash University medical students will be undertaking a two week rural health attachment at eight locations across Victoria. The experience is expected to help the students broaden their knowledge of health issues, and increase the number of students who come back to work in rural areas after graduation.
Professor Graeme Dean, Chair, Accounting and Business Law at the University of Sydney will be guest speaker at the Business & Economics research seminar on Tuesday, May 13 at 1pm in the Business & Economics Conference Room, Monash University Gippsland Campus. The topic will be ‘Cross Guarantee Corporate Group Financing: An Analytical and Empirical Review of Australia’s Experience in the 1990’s.
Postgraduate student Robert Lowell will be guest speaker at the School of Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences research forum at 1 pm on Thursday, May 15 in the Link Meeting Room. The topic will be ‘Writing a Political History on the Evolution of Local Government Human Services in Victoria (1960-1993).’
The last Monash University Gippsland Campus free lunchtime concert for semester one is at 1pm on Monday, May 19 and will be performed by the Istana String Quartet.
• Making the Grade
Gippsland Secondary Schools’ are invited to enter the Web Site Development Competition run by the Monash University Gippsland School of Computing and Information Technology. Gippsland secondary schools and students can win up to $200 cash and a computer for their school. Teams must register by May 16 and the closing date for entries is July 14. The Gippsland School of Engineering at Monash University will celebrate its 75th birthday this month. In 1928 the first students entered the Yallourn Technical School at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Hall before a new building was completed in 1936. The Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education (GIAE) opened in 1970 and moved to the new site at Churchill in 1972. In the late 80’s GIAE became amalgamated with Monash University and final amalgamation took place in 1990. In 1993 Yallourn Technical College became Monash University Gippsland Campus.
