Australia’s Best Stand Up Paddleboarders to Descend on Phillip Island for the Hyundai Australian SUP Titles
Best Stand Up Paddleboarders compete in the Hyundai Australian SUP Titles.
The top paddlers in the country will descend on Phillip Island this weekend with the Hyundai Australian SUP Titles set to kick off Friday, 18 October.
The four-day event will see over 150 paddlers from around Australia including Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria compete across three disciplines – SUP Surfing, SUP Marathon and SUP Technical.
Surfing Victoria CEO, Adam Robertson is looking forward to hosting the event for the first time in Victoria.
"We are stoked to be able to bring the event down to Victoria for the first time. We have a strong SUP community across both the racing and surfing divisions and this is a great opportunity for them to compete in their home state."
"Phillip Island is an amazing area for SUP and one of the most pristine locations in Australia. We are lucky to have access to a wide variety of waves and locations for the event which will no doubt allow the competitors to scores some epic waves and great paddling conditions."
The Opening Ceremony for the event will be held at the newly opened Penguin Parade on Friday, 18 October from 4pm and will include a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony followed by an official welcome from Surfing Australia and Victoria representatives. Competition will begin on Saturday 19th October and conclude on Tuesday, 22 October.
In addition to the competitive elements, people who are new to the sport are encouraged to come and try SUP at Cowes beach on Saturday, 19 from 10am - 12pm where Surfing Victoria’s Coasting SUP program will be running free come and try sessions. Limited spots are available, registrations will be taken on the beach.
Victorian SUP Club, SUP VIC, will also be running a social night at the Ramada Phillip Island resort on Saturday from 6pm – 9pm. All are welcome with tickets to be purchased via the SUP Vic Facebook Page.
The Hyundai Australian SUP Titles presented by SAE Group is also the key selection pathway to the ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championships held in December.
