The federal budget announced on Tuesday, May 13 may have some positive effects for the Gippsland Campus at Monash University. The Gippsland campus is expected to receive an additional 2.5 per cent loading and some Gippsland students could be eligible for the new federal government scholarships. The government has also said 210 additional nursing places will be made available at regional universities in 2004. Nursing is one of Gippsland's highest demand programs.
An additional free lunchtime concert is to be held on Monday, May 26 at Monash University Gippsland Campus. The ‘Aurora Vocal Quartet’ will perform folk melodies blending traditional and jazz harmonies. The concert begins at 1pm in the Hexagon.
• Making the Grade
Sahar Oujil, Manager, ITS Client Services at the Gipplsand Campus presented a paper about the Gippsland Education Precinct at the EduCause Conference in Adelaide on 8 May. During her presentation, Ms. Oujil said the Precinct is a good example of why it is important to have more bandwidth in order to facilitate education and research. The Gippsland Education Precinct will require extensive IT capability to provide leading edge resources to both students at the Precinct, and students and teachers living elsewhere in Gippsland.
Year 10 students from Luther College, Croydon will be visiting the Gippsland Campus on Monday, May 19. Current Gippsland Campus students will be acting as tour guides for the group. Students will visit the different faculties and undertake a tour of the campus.
• Open subject Justin Kohlman (Marketing & Public Affairs) and Fiona Bertoli (Faculty of Business & Economics) will be visiting the Shepparton area on May 21st to talk with prospective students about career opportunities for Monash graduates.
