Audiences thrilled with Taizhou children’s performances

The Taizhou Children’s Performing Arts delegation has been playing to enthralled audiences this week

The Taizhou Children’s Performing Arts delegation which arrived in Latrobe City last Friday, has been playing to enthralled audiences this week, with a further performance scheduled for tomorrow, (Friday 24 August) at Hazelwood North Primary School, and a 1pm performance on Monday at the Elizabeth Street Primary School in Moe. Latrobe citizens and visitors are invited to attend these performances.

Latrobe City’s Cultural Planner, D Goulding, said that presented in colourful costumes, the children’s performances had already delighted students and visitors at Traralgon Secondary College and Lowanna College, and a performance taking was also place today (Thursday) at Kurnai College.

"The sixteen children present traditional Chinese culture through music, dancing and singing. Soloist Li Wen captivates the audience with her skill at playing the zither, a folk instrument with a history of over 2000 years. There is an equally impressive performance from the only boy among the sixteen children, Huang Wei who displays a standard of professionalism throughout his accordion solo which is quite amazing," Ms Goulding said.

"The whole children’s group join together for special chorus items. The opening number by the dancing team called ‘Spring is coming’, sensationally sets the scene for the rest of the performance. The program includes their own special rendition of the Australian folk song, Click Goes the Shears.

"Colourful and inspiring, and portraying the worldwide recognised quintessence of China, Zhong Li performs a Beijing Opera masterpiece, ‘The Drunken Imperial Concubine’. It is a piece which portrays the Imperial Concubine’s feeling of half drunkenness and half consciousness, dreaming of dancing with the goddess in the moon," Ms Goulding said.

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Brendan Jenkins said the visit of the Taizhou Children’s Performing Arts delegation was unique. "We are honoured to be able to experience such a professional display of Chinese culture here in Latrobe. Some of our citizens are fortunate enough to have travelled to China to experience traditional Chinese culture, yet for most people, travel to far away places remains a dream. However, through this sister city visit from Taizhou, all our citizens are being empowered to experience a wonderful performance of this nature. I urge Latrobe citizens to take advantage these performances to broaden their understanding of an exciting culture from another land Cr Jenkins said.
