Dairy Reminders For JuneDairy Reminders For June By Department of Primary Industries - 20th June 2006 - Back to News Cows
Herd test for high cell counts so that either a dry cow treatment or trip to the saleyards can be arranged for the high cell count girls.
Remember all cattle despatched off the farm to either another property, agistment, saleyard or abattoir must have NLIS electronic identification.
All cattle going to either abattoir or saleyard must have a correctly filled out National Vendor Declaration (NVD) form.
Heifers
Heifers need to be growing at 0.6 to 0.8 kg of liveweight gain per day if they are to attain the ideal calving weight prior to calving.
The heifer liveweight should be about 80% of the average mature cow liveweight.
Transport heifers back from agistment paddocks at least six weeks before the due calving date to allow them to settle and avoid pre-calving stress.
Bobby Calves
Bobby calves transported off the property need to have an NLIS tag attached and a completed vendor declaration (NVD).
Environment
Save water in the shed by fixing those leaking pipes, hoses and taps.
Does the plate cooler water run back into a tank, or is it lost down the drain and into the dairy effluent pond?
Is it possible to recycle your effluent pond water to use on yard washing or flood wash system? This saves lots of fresh water.
Financial and business performance
Organise you records of expenditure and income to prepare a cash flow budget for next financial year using next seasons expected milk prices.
