The Soup Van

Driving hunger away across Moe

The Soup Van – driving hunger away

Sometimes you see something that makes you really glad to live in the Latrobe Valley. One such thing is the Soup Van, cruising the streets of Moe two nights a week to feed the needy.

The Soup Van is an initiative on behalf of the St. Vincent De Paul volunteers of Moe. The volunteers give their time selflessly to help prepare and deliver meals to some 150 homes.

The raising figures in both homelessness and unemployment may have had a hand in the need for this of vital service. The Soup Van delivers to all kinds of people from teenagers to families and the elderly throughout Newborough and Moe. The Soup Van is a great help in more ways than one. Not only does it take the recipient’s minds off finding food for two nights a week, but for some the social contact is as essential as the food.

The Soup Van could not run without help from the likes of Sunicrust, who give 60 loaves of bread per week and the volunteers who come and help out.

If you would like to help, contact Ms. Annette O’Dowd at St. Vincent De Paul, Moe.
