Leading the Way ActivelyBy VicHealth - 10th May 2005 - Back to News Research shows strong family relationships, a sense of belonging, good social skills and supportive networks promote mental health and wellbeing. Encouraging people to interact with each other through participation in a range of activities, organizations and networks can provide opportunities for social connections. Evidence shows isolation can lead to depression and to serious health problems including heart diseases and early death . With VicHealth support, Tubbut Resource Centre Neighborhood House has developed a project to:
1. Increase participation in physical activity
2. Encourage those currently not participating in sport and active recreation to participate .
We can promote the mental health and well being of residents of the wide community , through activities like sport and active recreation. Everyone can play a part in identifying and removing barriers to participation for every person in the community, regardless of their age, cultural background or ability. Chief Executive Officer D. Rob Moodie has quoted that : "one of the major challenges facing Victorians is the state of our mental and emotional health. It is critical that we increase levels of physical activity to improve Victoria’s health ." It is important that when people choose to participate in a sport they can do so in an environment that is safe welcoming and includes all people. Tubbut Resource Centre Neighborhood House welcomes everyone who wishes to use its services and venue. To celebrate the launching of the project Tubbut Resource Centre Neighborhood House is holding an indoor game night this Saturday May 14 6 pm . Further dates are set for Saturday May 28 and June 11, 12 noon for BBQ lunch and more games. Absolutely everyone is welcome
