Expo Sales From Halls Under Review

Defence for the decision to review policies on the sale of goods from Council premises

By Latrobe City Council - 28th March 2002 - Back to News

Latrobe City Council has defended its decision to review policies relating to the sale of goods from Council premises, following criticism from a Melbourne promotions company.

Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Hancock, said that Council was presently undertaking a number of policy reviews throughout the organisation, and one of these was initiated in November 2001 following a number of concerns expressed by Latrobe businesses.

"A number of Latrobe Valley retailers have expressed concerns for some years over the sale of goods by outside organisations at expos held at Council halls and Council has decided to review this matter.

"Council has written to all Chambers of Commerce in Latrobe as well as event organisers who have used Council’s halls in recent years, seeking their submissions on the matter," Mr Hancock said.

"In the meantime we are putting the confirmation of any further bookings on hold while the review is taking place. We would anticipate the issue will be resolved at the May or June Council Meeting, and proponents who have indicated an interest in booking halls for events, will then be notified of the decision.

"Council will welcome comments from all business groups and community organisations on this matter and has undertaken to take their comments into account in making its decision," Mr Hancock added.
