Useless facts

Irrelevant information that makes for great party conversation

By Emma Kae - 19th July 2001 - Back to News

Welcome to the hall of fame for all of those useless facts that are unlikely to help you with anything in life aside from winning the odd game of Trivial Pursuit. It is called (un-surprisingly) the Useless Information Homepage, and is an absolute maze of futile information.

There is the story of Mike the headless chicken, a chook that unfortunately lost his head but remained alive for another 18 months. It seems that Mike could do just about anything that any other chicken could do, if, of course, you exclude all of the functions of his head.

There is also the tale of Jack Hall, the man who felt that the useful life of the matchstick is far too short. He decided to prolong the matchstick life cycle with the perfect solution. He used the burnt wooden matchsticks to build musical instruments, with increasingly complex and fascinating patterns.

And who could forget the Great Toilet Paper Shortage. Obviously, toilet paper has not been around forever. We can be pretty sure that the caveman did not stop at his local Safeway to pick up a pack of Kleenex. However, after paper was produced for wiping in England 1880, it became the choice for most people. Going back to leaf material of the daily newspaper was not entirely appreciated.

This is one innovative website, with lots to read about and much to learn about the more pointless events that have occurred in the history of our world. Click here to visit the website for yourself.
