Hair and Beauty Competitions at GippsTAFE

GippsTAFE’s Hair, Beauty and Design Department recently held their annual Hairdressing competitions.

There were 150 entrants spread across 8 competitions which included, Ladies Fashion Blow Wave, Ladies Fashion Cut and Blow Wave, Men’s Style Cutting, Long Hair Evening Style, Colour Shading, and the popular final event ‘Off the wall’.

The hairdressing apprentices came from all over Gippsland, travelling from towns as far as Bairnsdale, Wonthaggi and Berwick.

The Head of GippsTAFE’s Hair, Beauty and Design Department, Shirley Nicholson, said she was thrilled with the days events. "The standard of the hairdressing skills shone through beautifully, the workmanship that was seen on the day was outstanding and we would like to congratulate all the apprentices who took part in our annual Competition."

The judging panel for the competition was made up of a Hairdressing advisory group that regularly meets with GippsTAFE’s Hair, Beauty and Design Department, enabling everyone to keep up with all the latest fashion trends and styles.

"We were so overwhelmed by the number of spectators that came on the day, it was exciting to see so many people come out and support our Apprentices."

Hairdressing students can be enrolled at any time of the year, to suit competency based, self paced training, and allow maximum flexibility for starting and finishing courses.

Courses on offer at GppsTAFE include Certificate II in Hairdressing, Certificate II in Nail Technology, Certificate II in Retail (Cosmetic Assistant), Certificate III in Hairdressing (Apprenticeship), Certificate II in Beauty and short courses including Waxing (Full body), Eyelash perming and Tinting, Make-up, Massage, Long Hair Styling and Colour Techniques.
