Protect Your Pooch!Micro-chip your pet for only $20 By Carol McCormack - 13th January 2003 - Back to News Dog owners are invited to have their pet micro-chipped for only $20 on Saturday 11 January 2003 from 10am-3pm at the Bass Coast Agricultural Show in Wonthaggi.
Micro-chipping is a permanent form of identification, so pets can be returned if they wander or get lost. The chip is the size of grain of rice, and the procedure is painless. Once implanted into the animal, the microchip remains inactive until read with a scanner.
"Council and Trovan are offering this form of identification for only $20 because we want to make sure people’s pets can be easily returned," said Deb Amor, Senior Local Laws Officer. "Unlike an external pet tag, the chip cannot be lost, altered or become worn and unreadable."

A micro-chipping day is being planned for Phillip Island later in 2003.
