Social Inclusion Action Group formed in Latrobe City that offers grants up to $5000
SIAG members will convene regularly, recommending funding for local projects fostering social connection and well-being, facilitated through the SIAG Community Connection Grant, offering up to $5000.
Latrobe City Council is pleased to announce the Social Inclusion Action Group (SIAG) has officially formed following a successful recruitment process from Monday 19 February to Friday 15 March 2024. Fifteen Latrobe City residents of all demographics and backgrounds were chosen to represent Latrobe City in this important community-led group.
Latrobe City SIAG comprises members with personal experiences or strong dedication to mental health and social connection, recommending projects for funding to enhance community inclusion
Enhancing local well-being
Members of SIAG will meet regularly to discuss community needs and make recommendations on funding local projects that enhance social connection, mental health, and well-being at a local level. Funding will be delivered through a new grant stream called the SIAG Community Connection Grant. This grant can provide up to $5000 to new or established projects that help all people in Latrobe City connect with each other and overcome social barriers.
Mayor of Latrobe City Council, Councillor Darren Howe said that council is proud to support projects through this grant because it promotes a safe, diverse, and resilient community.
"Latrobe City Council is honoured to support local organisations and groups with this funding opportunity because it means they can grow and deliver a project that aids in increasing social connection and mental health outcomes. This is an exciting prospect for the health and wellbeing sector of our community and those who are interested in making a positive difference on people's lives," said the Mayor.
Community connections grant
Deputy Mayor of Latrobe City Council and Central Ward Councillor, Tracie Lund, agreed the funding provides the building blocks required to create a region where everyone feels welcome and accepted.
"The Community Connections Grant is a special grant for our community because it advocates for priority group individuals who may experience unique challenges. It addresses their specific needs to ensure they are sufficiently included and supported in all community settings."
Applications for the first round opens through SmartyGrants on 15 April and closes 10 May, with ongoing grant rounds moving forward. Information sessions about the grant application process will be held online and in-person in Morwell, Churchill, Traralgon, and Moe, from Monday 22 April to Friday 3 May. To apply for the grant, register for an information session, or find further details, visit Social Inclusion Action Group (SIAG) website.
