By Portal Admin - 19th February 2020 - Back to News An annual exhibition which features as part of the Latrobe Performing Arts Education Program, ‘Beyond the Classroom’, encompasses a range of media, including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, digital and mixed media along with theatre and dance.
Bringing together the exceptional work of Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) students, the exhibition is designed to provide students with an opportunity to display their work to a wider audience and the local community.
Comprising of work selected from nominated students from across Latrobe City secondary schools, the exhibition showcases pieces developed throughout the students Units 3 and 4 studies as part of their final assessments.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Dan Clancey said, the exhibition celebrates the outstanding abilities and the diverse concerns of our newest emerging talents, and is certain to provide inspiration to visitors of all ages.
"The exhibition showcases artwork, of various mediums and forms, from a number of 2019 VCE Latrobe City students. This is their opportunity to exhibit their craft, whether that is in the field of studio arts, communication design, media or theatre studies. Works will include visual arts in a variety of mediums as well as a dramatic monologue delivered on the opening night of the exhibition," Cr Clancey said.
"For the students it is a validation of their years of hard work. They get to perform or display their work for an audience which is an invaluable experience.
"Each year I am excited to meet the student artists, to learn more about their work, their motivation and inspiration, along with their hopes and dreams. To witness the dedication and passion of these students is inspiring."
The official opening of ‘Beyond the Classroom’ will take place on Tuesday 4 February at 6pm at Latrobe Performing Arts Centre, Corner Grey and Breed Streets, Traralgon. The exhibition is open to the public and will be on display until March.
