Kung fu fighting Rapunzel leads the way

By Wellington Shire Council - 5th September 2005 - Back to News

What happens when you put a kung fu fighting Rapunzel in a house with her crazy twin and a soul-searching step-mother? Throw in a lovestruck Gippsland woodsman who wakes up Snow White with an unwanted kiss and you have the makings of … Enchanted.

Enchanted is the debut production of Wellington Shire Youth Theatre Group, Unda Construction.

Wellington Shire Youth Co-ordinator David Roberts established the group in March and its proven so popular, director Brendan FitzGerald has had to form two entirely separate casts to perform the show.

Mr Roberts said: "We’ve got 18 kids aged between 13 and 16 in the group and they’re all terrific. They wrote the play with Brendan and have really worked hard at rehearsals – they should be great shows!"

The play sees fairytale characters put in a reality TV house and features special video of the characters making diary room confessions, which the kids wrote themselves.

Wellington Mayor Peter Gault said: "It’s terrific to see the Shire’s young people involved in the performing arts and actually writing their own scripts. I’m sure it will prove to be a wonderful success and a lot of fun."

Enchanted will be performed for two nights only at Sale Memorial Hall on Wednesday, 7 September and Thursday 8 September at 8pm.

Tickets - $12 full price and $8 concession – are available at the Wellington Shire Offices, Sale. Inquiries: 5142 3340.
