Engineers Australia, Gippsland invites the community to hear Mr Chris Sylvester, CEO of Latrobe Magnesium Limited present ‘Rising from the Ashes’ at Monash University Gippsland Campus on Thursday, March 25 at 5.30pm. The Latrobe Valley is likely to see significant engineering developments over the next five years and Mr Sylvester will be presenting first hand information on what the Latrobe Magnesium Development is and an update on the project. Latrobe City Mayor Graeme Middlemiss will be visiting the Gippsland Campus on March 10 to speak with second year Bachelor of Education students about his role. This is part of a study unit, ’Studies in Society and Environment’ which assists future primary teachers to implement civics and citizenship into the school curriculum.

• Making the Grade

Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Brian Mackenzie was one of the community education leaders asked to present to the Gippsland Community Leadership Program on February 26. Monash University is a strong supporter of the program which improves leadership and local knowledge amongst participants. This year, Fiona Bertoli and Dan Clancey are representing Monash University Gippsland Campus as participants.

Monash University Gippsland Campus along with Monash International has enrolled 120 international students which includes 81 new students for 2004. The students have come from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Botswana, China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Mauritius, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea, USA, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

The Student Union at Monash Gippsland celebrated International Women’s Day with the mystic charms of two snake girls, a free bbq lunch and various stalls which highlighted women in a diversity of cultures throughout the world.
