Grants available to acquire events in South Gippsland before June 30 2024 and more South Gippsland Shire updates
Joint project by Gippsland Water and GLaWAC brings drinking water to Knob Reserve, benefiting Gunaikurnai community and promoting cultural values. Water fountains with local artwork to be installed.
The first round of community grants are open now until Thursday 31 August. Grants can be used for both minor and major projects and equipment, planning and developing reports, and festivals and events. Our Community Strengthening Team are providing drop-in sessions around the Shire, where community organisations can come along and ask any questions they might have.
Drop-in sessions schedule
Drop-in sessions will be available at the following dates, times and locations:
- Friday 21 July - Coal Creek, Korumburra 10.00am to 1.00pm
- Monday 24 July - Leongatha Community House, Leongatha 11.00am to 2.00pm
- Tuesday 25 July - Foster War Memorial Arts Centre, Foster 10.00am to 1.00pm
- Wednesday 26 July - Poowong Uniting Church, Poowong 10.00am to 1.00pm
- Thursday 27 July - Mirboo North & Community Foundation's Co-Space, Mirboo North 10.00am to 1.00pm
- Monday 31 July - Tarwin Lower Healthcare Centre, Tarwin Lower 10.00am to 1.00pm

Our Community Safety team will be following up unpaid animal registrations in the community, so please register your pet promptly to avoid penalties
Is your pet registered?
Over the next few weeks, our Community Safety team will be out in the community following up unpaid animal registrations. Animal registrations are due in April each year, so if you haven't yet registered your pet, please do so urgently. The visits offer an opportunity for our team to answer any questions you may have or point you in the right direction for more information. Please Note: Unpaid registrations can result in an infringement.
If you have misplaced your renewal, our Customer Service team will be more than happy to help you. Simply call 5662 9200 between 8.30am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday. To register or renew your pet's registration, please go to Pet Registration page.
Events acquisition fund
Are you hosting an event in South Gippsland before 30 June 2024? Expressions of Interest are now open for the Gippsland Events Acquisition Fund. The Acquisition Fund aims to strengthen and sustain events across Gippsland by providing funding support for events that will attract visitors and provide economic benefits for the Gippsland region.

Hard waste collection
Bookings for the annual hard waste collection service are now open. This provides residents with a convenient way to dispose of hard rubbish, particularly if they are unable to attend a transfer station themselves.
All residents are eligible to receive one collection at a fee of $150 per property. A reduced rate of $53 applies for pension card holders. Bookings close in August. To book, please visit South Gippsland Hard Waste page.

L2P Transitioning
The Learner Driver Program (L2P) has transitioned from South Gippsland Shire Council to the Salvation Army.The L2P program has been coordinated by South Gippsland Shire Council for 13 years and has helped hundreds of young people to gain their 120 practice hours and successfully learn to drive.
The L2P program will be a great addition to the Salvation Army and will complement their existing volunteering opportunities and programs, many of which are tailored to support young people. To learn more about the program or to volunteer, please contact the Salvation Army on 5662 6400.

BreastScreen van in Leongatha
If you are between the ages of 50 and 74 and are due to have a breast screen but you've been putting it off, there's no better time to screen than on the van in Leongatha. The van will be at Gippsland Southern Health Service, 66 Koonwarra Road, Leongatha 3953 from Monday 10 July to Thursday 10 August. Appointments for the Leongatha van can be made online at BreastScreen page.
Railway precinct mural project
South Gippsland Shire Council is thrilled to announce the launch of public voting to determine the artist who will create a captivating, large-scale mural at the Leongatha Railway Precinct is now open.
Out of 35 applications, three artists were shortlisted for the opportunity to showcase their concepts and talents. We are now looking to you to help decide which artist will bring the Precinct to life. Scholarship opportunity
The Australian Multicultural Foundation Carla Zampatti Scholarship for Young Women is a national initiative developed to celebrate the legacy of renowned Australian fashion designer and multiculturalism champion, Carla Zampatti.
With this scholarship young women aged between 18 and 29 have the opportunity to receive $10,000 to support a venture, project or activity that will help young women achieve their aspirations and goals. Applications close Friday 14 July at 5.00pm, so please get yours in quickly.
