A number of charges were laid against duck hunters in Gippsland over the weekend.

By Department of Sustainability & Environment - 21st March 2006 - Back to News

A joint effort between Department of Sustainability and Environment Wildlife staff, Victoria police and RAAF personnel apprehended six duck hunters on Sunday morning for shooting and trespassing on Commonwealth land.

The hunters were shooting in a prohibited area and had their firearms seized.

DSE's Senior Wildlife Officer, Charlie Franken said that in general hunters were well-behaved and most stuck to the official opening time.

"Bag limits were fairly low this year, but there were still some people using toxic lead shot," Mr Franken said.

"With the few exceptions we had, the opening of the season has got off to a good start across the region."
