Families visiting Wilsons Promontory will be able to experience the wonder of our iconic Australian animals, thanks to the recent upgrade of the popular Prom Wildlife Walk - backed by the Allan Labor government. Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos today announced the completion of the new walk, which is part of the government's broader $23 million investment in Wilsons Prom through the Tourism Infrastructure Program.

Wildlife walk upgrades

Wilsons Prom is a perfect getaway for outdoor loving families, and these upgrades to the Wildlife Walk will make it even easier to experience all that's on offer - including resurfacing of the two-kilometre track and seated rest areas along the way.

Taking its name from the emus, kangaroos, wallabies and wombats that are regularly spotted grazing along the Wildlife Walk, the upgrades also include interpretive signage to help visitors better understand the natural environment and the wildlife that lives there. The project has also improved the car parking, including bollards to keep vehicles off sensitive vegetation. Finished just in time for the Prom's summer season, the upgrades make it even more appealing for families to come and enjoy the camping and hiking on offer.

Wilsons Promontory is the southernmost tip of mainland Australia and is one of the state's most beloved and iconic national parks. Each year it welcomes more than 400,000 visitors, who come to experience the native flora and fauna, walking and hiking trails, and the spectacular scenery - including the infamous Squeaky Beach. The Prom draws thousands of people to Gippsland every year - boosting local hotels, restaurants, businesses and the local economy."

Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh said, "Wilson's Prom is one of the most iconic locations in Victoria and this upgrade makes the Wildlife Walk even better for the locals and tourists who enjoy it."
