Celebrate the important role volunteers play in our community at Volunteer recognition events hosted by East Gippsland Shire Council
National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to celebrate the important role volunteers play in our community.
Mayor Cr Mark Reeves said a strength of the East Gippsland community is its willingness to contribute in meaningful ways for the betterment of local causes, groups and clubs and for the region more broadly. "Volunteering brings people together; it builds communities and creates a better society for everyone. Together, through volunteering, we are changing communities for the better. We are a true reflection of this year's National Volunteer Week theme - 'Better Together'."
During National Volunteer Week, we will be recognising the significant work volunteers, as well as the East Gippsland Honour Roll, contribution to our region
Recognition events
Following the success of last year's volunteer recognition events in Bairnsdale, Orbost, Lakes Entrance, Omeo and Mallacootta, this year Council is hosting volunteer recognition events in Cann River, Lindenowand Tambo Crossing. "We would love for volunteers, family and friends in those areas, and East Gippsland more broadly, to join us," Cr Reeves said.

"I wish to thank all of the volunteers in the East Gippsland community for their valuable contributions. Volunteerism is the backbone of our community. Individuals and groups run community events, sporting clubs, social and service clubs, fundraise for equipment, help those less fortunate, care for our environment, and more." Cr Reeves said.
Volunteer honour Roll
Registrations are still open for the East Gippsland Volunteer Honour Roll, a Council initiative launching this year. "The Volunteer Honour Roll will be a permanent list of names recognising those in our communities who give up so much of their time to make sure East Gippsland is one of the most liveable and inclusive regions in Victoria."
"While volunteers don't look for accolades, we would like to use National Volunteer Week to let all volunteers know they are seen and appreciated. So, if you or know of someone who is deserving of a pat on the back for their efforts in the community, nominate them now and we'll ensure they are included on the roll." Cr Reeves said.
