Community Services at the Gippsland Campus has appointed a new counsellor, Ms Wendy McKeown. Wendy worked as a teacher and counsellor for many years at St Paul’s Grammar, Warragul prior to her appointment at the Gippsland Campus. 

Orientation Week for first year students begins the last week of February. ‘O’ Week, which is now compulsory, is the best preparation for students to get a positive start to their first year. The University learning environment is quite different from secondary school and the Gippsland Campus recognises this and provides networks and services to assist students with the transition to tertiary studies.

• Making the Grade

Enrolment Day was held at the Gippsland Campus on Wednesday, January 28 with over 500 prospective students arriving at the campus to take up their first round offers. Current students greeted the excited newcomers and started them on a streamlined four stage enrolment process which included one on one course advice from Gippsland Campus staff, ID photos, computer and library access, Centrelink and Monash University Gippsland Student Union information and accommodation both on and off campus.

Interviews for entry to the Diploma of Foundation Studies (DOFS) were held last week for the 120 applicants. The unique 12-month Diploma is an alternative entry program to University providing students with the opportunity to develop necessary skills to succeed at University. 103 students are expected to receive first round offers.

• Open subject

The first exhibition for 2004 at Monash University Gippsland Campus Switchback Gallery will be ceramics works by Merran Esson (A Master of Arts (Visual Arts) examination exhibition). The title of the exhibition is ‘Function is the subject matter not the purpose’ and will be on display from February 9 to 18 March. The Switchback Gallery is open 9am-5pm weekdays.
