Rock Wall Replacement to Start

Northern side wall between Ramsey and Miller Terrace will be replaced.

A section of the rock wall located on the northern side of the road between Ramsey Boulevard and Miller Terrace in Inverloch will be replaced.

Bass Coast Shire Council has appointed a contractor to complete the works, which will start on Tuesday, 2 April. The work is expected to take around one month to complete. The existing basalt rock wall is unique and well known in the local area, but in recent years has started to fail and is becoming a safety issue. The good news is that the wall has been funded to be replaced ‘like for like’ as part of Council’s 2018-19 Capital Works Program and its original unique attributes will be retained. The project will be fully funded by Council to a value of $175,000.

The works will involve the removal of four trees. The trees will be removed to enable the replacement of the existing damaged wall and to ensure the ongoing integrity of the new rock wall. A permit has been acquired by Council to remove the vegetation. The removal of the trees will also improve road safety by increasing sight lines for vehicles travelling along Ramsey Boulevard and approaching Venus Street.

The works will also require the existing street light pole on Ramsey Boulevard to be removed in the future, subject to approvals.

There will be some minor traffic delays along Ramsey Boulevard and Miller Terrace during construction. Appropriate site control and protection measures, including traffic control will be in place throughout the construction period.

Every effort will be made to minimise the disruptions to local residents and road users, while the work is underway. Road users can seek alternate routes during the construction period.
