About the project

The net.RESULT project was established in Gippsland as part of the State Government’s Victorian Early E-Commerce Movers (VEEM) project. The project was run through MultiMedia Victoria and supported in Gippsland by the Shires of Baw Baw, Wellington and East Gippsland, the City of Latrobe, Gippsland Development Ltd and GREEN Inc. The State Government wants to see more businesses take advantage of Internet Technologies that would support and enhance business development in the State. One way of achieving that goal was to establish a number of successful pilot projects around regional Victoria that would demonstrate – to participants and others in industry – how this could work.

That’s where net.RESULT came in for the Gippsland community.

A series of short workshops were held, with business people invited to take part. These workshops demonstrated, firstly, how industry clusters can support each other and secondly, to develop technology tools that would support those industry clusters.

Once the workshops were held, a small number of industry clusters were formed. Each of these cluster members were provided with support, to develop a web presence and set up systems that would allow a cluster approach to issues such as marketing, ordering goods and services, sharing relevant information with a select group of people and creating efficiencies in time management.

The clusters demonstrated how complimentary and like-minded business groups could create an economy of scale and a strong group presence by using new technologies.

What is an Industry Cluster?
Essentially, it’s a group of businesses or organisations that can benefit by doing things together

What does an industry cluster do?
Quite often similar industries in a region can achieve better results and create new opportunities if they combine their buying power, their selling power and by marketing the things that they do well. Talking with each other, either directly or by new economy technology, can open up a new world of business opportunities.
