The Facility provides

  • An "incubator-like" environment (co-location with businesses in similar early stages of development and access to mentoring support);
  • Start up assistance, business plan development, business & marketing facilitation; and
  • Access to a network of resources (including Monash academics, government, commercial).

Statement of Purposes

The incorporated association’s purposes are:

  • To provide business incubation and development services from the Gippsland Technology and Business Development Centre;
  • To assist and promote research, development & commercialisation of ecologically sustainable technologies, enterprises and industries that will enhance and diversify the Gippsland and Australian economies; and
  • To develop an information exchange network organisation that assists, promotes and raises community awareness of the ecologically sustainable development of the Gippsland region and wider Australian community.
 GREEN Inc - The Region & Relationships

GREEN Inc is a project for the development of the Gippsland region on a ‘serious time scale’. The project and the impressive Technology and Business Development Centre were established with grant funds provided by the Commonwealth. The rent revenues from this asset are the basis of ongoing operational funding.

GREEN Inc’s financial viability is based on making a positive contribution to the regions’ development – providing a "value add" to the real estate resource of the T&BDC – assisting an enabling the development of new industries and enterprises.

The Monash University Relationship

GREEN Inc operates on a 20-year lease agreement with Monash University

  • that agreement defines Monash’s commitment to the project and demonstrates Monash University’s commitment to engage the region through a project committed to the sustainable economic and ecological development of Gippsland, and

  • Monash’s engagement via GREEN Inc is a cooperative and collaborative engagement with other key stakeholders in the region, especially with the City of Latrobe & the municipal councils in Gippsland.

  • The vision in this project – in its inception – was the provision of a development mechanism for Gippsland secured over a long time period, and funded by its success.
  • GREEN Inc was established to assist in enabling private industry to access and engage the R&D capacity of Monash University.
  • Monash University research activity - especially the commercialisation of such research - is anticipated to be a significant source of tenancies and projects to the incubator facility.
Business Incubation
  • A business incubator is a facility designed to assist new and growing businesses to become established and profitable by providing premises, advise, services and support.
  • DEWRSB identified >68 incubators in Australia - November 1999
  • Most incubators are owner/operator retail environments (GREEN Inc has a 'technology park' orientation, ie. With a focus toward the development of new technologies rather than 'typical' commercial/retail businesses).
