Gippsland Veterans Welfare Centre in Sale receives $2M facility upgrade from federal government
The Gippsland Veterans Welfare Centre in Sale will receive a $2 million boost if the federal coalition government is returned on Saturday.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the money would upgrade facilities to provide additional services for local veterans and their families. "The volunteers do an incredible job at the current site but the basic infrastructure is in poor shape and needs major work," Mr Chester said.
This much-needed funding will improve the amenity of the centre helping veterans and their families to enjoy healthy, active lifestyles and good overall well-being
Delivering services to veterans
Mr Chester said, "It is a multi-purpose hub for delivering services to veterans and supporting other community activities for disadvantaged Gippslanders. RSL and Soldier On provide veterans advocacy services and well-being activities for the entire Wellington Shire from this central location."
"The centre has secured a long-term lease of the former art gallery/library in Sale but the building has structural and aesthetic issues. There are plans to replace the leaking roof and windows which would allow access to the second floor of the building and expand the opportunity to host activities for veterans and their families."
"The veterans centre partners with a range of community groups to also provide support for homeless people and conduct a weekly community dinner along with distributing clothing to vulnerable people." Mr Chester said.
