Jam-packed programs

Baw Baw Shire Mayor, Annemarie McCabe said, "We've got a jam-packed school holiday program on offer for Baw Baw's young people over the next two weeks. Many of the activities are affordable and some are even free, so I encourage you to check out what's on and book ahead for those that interest you, to avoid missing out." Here's a preview on what's happening over the big two weeks:

  • Short Tail, Long Tail, Curly Tail, Straight Tail at Warragul Leisure Centre. This program aims to empower young people to respect their bodies and embrace the differences in their peers and the wider community by addressing issues around pop culture, relationships, bullying and self-care at an age-appropriate level
  • Self Defence Workshops with Kael Coster at Drouin Library. Join Kael from TRIBE MMA Warragul and learn how to escape from various grabs and holds, basic striking and pre-emptive strikes, how to fall and get off the ground safely and the psychology of a street fight and how to make an attacker want to avoid you
  • All Aboard Skateboard Sessions at Drouin SkatePark and Warragul SkatePark. Come down to the Skate Park, for a fun action-packed day. No experience required
  • Winter Lantern Making at Warragul Library. Winter lanterns will be constructed from glass jars, using cutting and pasting techniques from natural and found materials. Take them home and just add a tealight candle for a beautiful winter lantern to light your long winter nights

West Gippsland Arts Centre is also offering shows and workshops for young people of all ages, including Express Yourself, a workshop with visual artist and illustrator Luke John Matthew Arnold who uses text, bold colour, motifs and compositions to celebrate many facets of life and Junklandia, where ordinary recycled materials are transformed into extraordinary musical instruments. Bookings are required.
