The Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) is the organisation responsible for managing Victoria's natural environments.

The Department provides advice and support to the Government on all environmental issues. It leads the management, protection and care of the state's natural and heritage assets, biodiversity and ecology, climate change and water management.

  DSE's activities in Gippsland reflect the range of natural resources in the region and the diversity of communities and partners we work with to care for those resources.

Department of Sustainability  EnvironmentIn Gippsland, DSE's responsibilities include:
Forests and Fire Management
Emergency response
Biodiversity and Flora and Fauna Management
Coastal management
Cultural Heritage
Climate change
Water and catchment management
Crown Land Management

DSE works with other agencies to undertake these programs, such as Catchment Management Authorities, Parks Victoria, VicForests, Water Authorities, CFA, Local Government, the Environment Protection Authority and Department of Primary Industries.
