The action continued last Sunday in the Edison Mission Energy Latrobe Valley Baseball Association with round seven games. In A grade Morwell narrowly defeated Churchill, while Sale and Moe/Newborough were locked at 4-4 at the end of play.

Sale hosted the Dodgers in a top of the table clash and trailed 2-1 at the bottom of the fourth. The Dodgers then led 3-1 in the eighth until Greg Carmody stepped to the plate and hit a three run home run to give Sale their first lead. The Dodgers scored again in the last innings to force a draw in a tense and exciting contest. For the Dodgers Duanne Baker threw the full nine innings allowing only eight hits and had five strikeouts. Sale’s pitcher Chris Garner threw the first seven innings allowing five hits and had six strikeouts. Brian Spiteri hit a home run for the Dodgers. The B grade game saw a convincing victory to Sale 9-1.

Churchill traveled to Morwell and started slowly partly due to great pitching by Rory Clark. Morwell led 2-0 going into the third until the Braves rested control of the game on the back of good pitching by Aaron Stein. Churchill scored seven runs over the last five innings to win 8-5. Best players for Churchill were Aaron Stein, Josh Graham and Bruce Gillespie, while Morwell’s best were Rory Clark, Garyth Mullet and Stephen Balesia. In the B grade game Churchill came out firing and led 4-0 after the first innings. Morwell did not score until the third innings when the floodgates opened. The Cougars scored thirteen runs over the next three innings while the Braves could manage only one extra run. The final score was 16-5 in Morwell’s favor. Best players for Morwell were Chris Atlee, Adam Duncan and Jason Barnes. Davis McCahon, Ross Coen and Tim Cranwell were the top performers for Churchill. Morwell won the under 14 game 12-5.

Yarram hosted Traralgon and were beaten by an in form Redsox team in B grade. The Redsox scored six runs in their second dig as Jude Power hit a home run that bought in three more runs. The Redsox continued their dominance in the next few innings scoring consistently and with error free fielding restricted Yarram to two runs. For the Redsox Luke Hornsta had four hits and along with Jude Power and Daryll Hunter were the top players. The Redsox continued their dominance in the C grade game with all players consistently putting bat to ball. Traralgon’s pitching and catching combination of Wells and Carey Humphrey controlled the Stealers batters. Traralgon won easily with a strong team performance. The under 18 game Traralgon won 18-3. With both clubs missing players due to the representative side a scratch match was played in the under 14’s which Yarram won 14-9. Highlight of the game was a home run by the Traralgon’s Jarrod Wilhelme.

This Sunday the Edison Mission Energy Latrobe Valley Baseball Association season continues with round eight games. This week’s games see the Traralgon Redsox take on Morwell Cougars; the Sale Rangers do battle with Yarram Stealers and the Churchill Braves host the Moe/Newborough Dodgers.
