Optical Illusions are created by errors in our visual perceptions. Everyone sees things differently. Once we are conditioned to see things in a certain manner, we will often see what we expect – even if that is not what is really there.

There are many common Illusions which are created by the brain without the help of David Copperfield – The Muller-Lyer for instance.

In the image above, one of the central lines looks longer than the other. If you measure them however, you will see that both are the same length!

Most Illusions are the result of differences in the appearance of a measurable aspect of the world such as size, distance, and shape. When we get used to how things are supposed to be, and sometimes our brains get the clues all wrong.
