Hound Dogs go down 8-3 in darts

A brilliant solo performance by Noel Browne couldn't prevent the Greyhound club going down

By Wayne Forsyth - 23rd May 2001 - Back to News

In a singles match reminiscent of an ancient gladitorial battle, Noel Browne had one of the biggest victories of his darts career beating Cyril McDonald in a high standard, high scoring match. Consistent scoring in the 80's gave Cyril a slight advantage, with Noel's tons being mixed with 45's.

With Cyril left on 32, victory seemed a mere formality, but a ton from Browne (his third for the game) left him needing a double 16 as well. An uncharacteristic 0/3 from Cyril left the door ajar for Noel, who banged in two double 8's to have a memorable victory. If there were a crowd at the match they would have been on their feet.

This fantastic effort though was one of only a handful of highlights for the Greyhounds, as their slick opponents didn't give any chances. Top score for the Hound Dogs was 125 from Wayne.
