Monash University Gippsland Campus students are going against the norm - they want IT problems. As part of the Monash computing degree, groups of students are looking for businesses who need IT solutions. The teams will work with local companies from March until October to devise hardware and software solutions. The service is free. For more information contact Paul Odgers at 5122 6847. Round one VTAC enrolment day will take place on campus Wednesday, January 29. A total of 543 first round offers were sent to students for places at Monash University, Gippsland Campus in 2003. Primary Education, Arts, Nursing and Science, as well as double degrees involving Computing and Business, experienced higher student demand this year.
Les Hardy and Jodie Maxfield from the Faculty of Business at Gippsland were awarded a $20,000 grant to develop a better on-line learning system for students. The grant was one of only two that will be presented by the Melbourne/Monash Committee for Collaboration in Educational Technology grants in 2003. The project will extend work that all recipients are currently working on in their separate discipline areas while enhancing the grassroots cooperation that already exists between Monash University and Melbourne University. Associate Professor Lindsay Fitzclarence has taken up his new position as Head of the Faculty of Education, Gippsland. Dr. Fitzclarence has expertise in the areas of initial education training and sport masculinity in education. He joined Monash University as a lecturer at the Gippsland Campus twelve months ago before being promoted to his new position at the end of last year. High student demand continues for primary teaching and sport and outdoor recreation places. Shirley Wright has been appointed housing officer for the Gippsland Campus. In the new position, Ms. Wright will be looking for a range of accommodations for students in the community as well as helping the students settle into their new surroundings.
