Fires continue to blaze erratically in Victoria’s Alpine country, presenting firefighters with a difficult task as they consolidate resources and endeavour to protect assets and communities in the areas most seriously affected.

The Bogong fire reached Mount Hotham overnight and expert CFA strike teams, working with DSE fire crews, are in attendance both at Hotham Village and at Dinner Plain to protect residents and property. Operations here and at the Feathertop fire are now being managed by the Swifts Creek Incident Management Team.

The Glen Wills, Glen Valley, Uplands and Omeo Valley areas continue to cause concern, as fire spotting and falling embers from the main Razorback fire spark new burns. Residents here are reminded to be on the watch for falling embers and extinguish them as soon as they land.

Firefighters are concentrating on the protection of farmland and homes most directly affected. All communities are being kept informed of the situation and more community meetings are being held tomorrow, Sunday, in the Swifts Creek Hall at 11.00am and in the Ensay Hall at 2.30pm.

Backburning and the establishment of control lines continue on sectors of the fire that can be safely attended. Intense fire behaviour is hampering control attempts on some edges.
