Gippsland › Latest news › GippsTAFEMake a Career Out of Writing!Enrolment week for Professional Writing and Editing (Written By GippsTAFE Professional Writing and Editing Student, Dave Valler) Lainey Hughes of Traralgon has always been an avid reader but later in life discovered she had a talent for writing and began writing poems and verses for friends and family. Two years ago Ms Hughes attended a Summer school in Melbourne on Creative Writing and has since been involved with workshops on self publishing and writing children’s books, also studying at the Churchill Neighbourhood Centre Writing Group. Last year Ms Hughes progressed a stage further by enrolling in the Professional Writing and Editing Course at GippsTAFE, preferring the on-line option, which gave her more time to spend with family and on other commitments. Ms Hughes has had work published in New Idea, The Herald Sun, and her Churchill writing group completed an anthology called "Gippsland Reflections" that was launched in December. Ms Hughes said that she would definitely continue her studies next year and would eventually like to write children’s books, also claiming that she has gained a great deal of inspiration from local GippsTAFE teacher and literary guru, Cora Pal. The Certificate IV course, taught by GippsTAFE’s Community Access Department at the Yallourn Campus, will be available throughout 2003. There is also the option to complete the course on-line, allowing students to work from home over the Internet, but places are limited. Interviews and enrolments for the course will be held January 28-31 2003. For further information or interview times regarding GippsTAFE’s Professional Writing and Editing Course please contact Heather Cupples on 5127 0238.
