Home Security:

A large number of homes in our NHW area were burgled during September while the occupants were out. The criminal concerned has been arrested. The method he used to determine if anyone was home was simple. He would knock on the front door and when it was answered he would ask if a certain person lived there, when told they did not he would leave. If the knock was not answered he would go round the back and look for an open window or one he could force, so he could carry out the burglary.

In the light of this the Police ask that if a stranger comes to your door asking for someone you do not know, say so and close the door. Then ring the Police on 000 (triple zero) and report the incident giving a description of the of the person and the direction they travel after leaving your premises.

Elecrical Warning:

Victoria’s electricity safety "watchdog", The Office of the Chief Electrical Inspector, has issued a public safety warning over two items of household electrical equipment, which pose a serious threat of electrocution to users.

The items are: "CLICK" brand double adapters, and "YUN" brand extension cord sockets.

The "Click" double adaptors in question feature model numbers CDA-102 series, CSB series, CSZ series and CCL series. The year of manufacture of the product can be identified by inspecting the four digit date code located near the earth pin on the rear of the device. The final two digits of the date code identify the year of manufacture. As many as six million of these particular double adaptors were manufactured between 1987 and 1995 and supplied throughout Australia. The double adaptor was modified in 1996 and this has prevented further failures. Consequently, post 1996 items are safe.

The "Yun" YA3-Z extension cord sockets are manufactured in China and are sold as part of a moulded extension cord set. They are also sometimes fitted to a "Sensai" brand extension cord. Most of the sockets feature a white coloured enclosure with a protective skirt. The following markings are featured – a logo of the manufacturer "Yun", the model/catalogue number "YA3-Z", approval number "N16180" or "N17533" and ratings "10A250V". These particular extension sockets were first imported into Australia in 1999 and approved for sale. Because of the danger and poor quality of the delivered products, approval for them has been withdrawn and it is now an offence to supply or offer to supply the product.

These two warnings to the public to dispose of both these products, are some of the most serious ever to be issued by the Office of the Chief Electrical Inspector. There could be dire consequences for anyone ignoring these warnings. (from NHW Sentinel)
