The film that will have you checking your house for fuzzy creatures

When one goes to see a film entitled "Eight Legged Freaks" it is not expected that the feature will be a life changing experience. That is, unless you have unrealised potential for suffering arachnophobia…

The plot goes something like this:

• Toxic waste causes spider colony to increase in size until they resemble elephants
• Huge spiders get peeved and peckish and descend on sleepy mining town in Arizona
• Lots of shrieking and scampering as the civilians try to escape impending doom
• Town turns to small town rebel to save the day and the humble telephone pitchman becomes arachnid exterminator
• Country fair shooting gallery ensues, painting the theatre with spider guts and the like

In short, this B-grade film is inspired by classic monster movies such as "Them!" "Tarantula" and "Gremlins" – complete with the nightmarish looking feature creatures.

First time director, Ellory Elkayem fulfils the audience’s expectations with more cheap thrills, dirty jokes and green spider insides than you can shake a hairy leg at.

The film refuses to take itself seriously, although it appears that someone failed to inform lead actor David Arquette, who in recent interviews has insisted that the film is both scary and realistic in appearance. How unfortunate that he missed the entire point of the film.

This movie is surprisingly entertaining, although I probably would not recommend it as a first time date movie. Watching your prospective other half flee screaming up the aisle is not the best look.
