Women In Business Network Up And Running

The Victorian Government StreetLife Program together with the Latrobe City Council and the Wellington Shire have funded a Women In Business Network Project to be run over the next two years.

The project is well under way with a Launch happening on Friday, September 20 2002. The Minister for small business, Ms Marsha Thomson, will open the ceremony. Women in Business will showcase their enterprise.

Ms Angelica Clutterbuck has been appointed as the project consultant. "The Launch will provide an opportunity to celebrate this important project for the Shire of Wellington and the City of Latrobe" Ms Clutterbuck said.

The WIB Network targets women who own a business, manage a business, want to buy or set up a business or are in business partnership. The project tries to encompass the various enterprises women can be involved in. It aims to set up a formal business network, identify issues for women in business, provide an opportunity for training, create community awareness and set up a mentoring model.

"The project will raise awareness of the tremendous, but often overlooked, contributions women make to our infrastructure", adds Ms Clutterbuck. "It will provide assistance, information and education to women in business."

One of the major tasks will be to conduct an audit of women in business in Wellington and Latrobe. From this a comprehensive database and address list will be developed for communication, information and education.

Public forums in the Shire of Wellington and the City of Latobe will be advertised to identify the needs of women in business.

Ms Clutterbuck urges all women in business to participate: "These activities will be one of the key points of the project and their outcomes will direct future activities".
