A Certificate IV in Professional Writing at GippsTAFE has been perfect for Bill, and many other adult learners in Gippsland. Mr Jordan emigrated from Liverpool England to Australia in 1970 with his wife and worked at the SEC for 20 years, before retiring. "I did a 12 month SCOPE course and decided that a TAFE course was the next step," said Mr Jordan, highlighting his recent study experiences in the lead up to TAFE Week 2002 (19-25 August). "I decided to do a Certificate IV in Professional Writing and Editing because I have done creative writing at home all my life and decided that this course would make me a more disciplined writer. The course work is challenging, I really enjoy it." Mr Jordan attends the class 2 days a week at GippsTAFE’s Yallourn Campus with his classmates. "People of all ages attend the class and we all bond together through writing, which is great." Everyone in the class is different, they tell their stories, let their barriers down and through discussion we get new story ideas." Mr Jordan encourages mature aged people to return to study. "I say give it a go if you really want to do it." GippsTAFE’s Certificate IV in Professional Writing and Editing provides training in creative, business, technical writing, editing and the production of texts and can lead to employment and tertiary study in writing and journalism.
