Boolarra Pre-kinder still has vacancies

Parents urged to take advantage of current vacancies at the Boolarra Pre-school Centre.

Parents of three-year olds, particularly in Yinnar, Churchill and Mirboo North are being urged to take advantage of current vacancies for the ten-hour pre kinder program being offered at the Boolarra Pre-school Centre in 2001.

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Tony Hanning said that following the finalisation of on-time enrolments, a number of pre-kinder places were still available at Boolarra, but were not just restricted to Boolarra families.

“It’s important that all citizens living in the rural areas to our south realise that they have access to this excellent pre-kinder program,” Cr Hanning said.

“People living in rural areas have further to travel, and rural duties can also be extremely time consuming. Simply providing the usual two-hours pre-kinder service in these areas places a heavy restriction on families. By providing the extra pre-kinder hours, we are not only giving rural children a great start in life, but we’re giving their parents additional opportunities such as additional time for supermarket shopping, or the extra travel time entailed to keep doctors and dental appointments.”

Cr Hanning said the two year preschool program which was introduced in August was also being offered in Tyers in 2001.

“This program provides more options for families, and with smaller enrolments of four year olds in these communities, additional places for pre-kinder can be absorbed by the existing staff,” Cr Hanning said.

“Children enrolled in the prekinder program offering the extended hours will be given special consideration at Boolarra or Tyers when placing their preschool enrolment for the following year,” Cr Hanning added.

“Sessions will be extended on parental request only where the preschool teacher and parent are satisfied that the child is ready for another session,” Cr Hanning concluded.
