The 2001 Outstanding Graduate Award in Business Studies was presented to Sharon Dixon, who was also presented with the overall 2001 Outstanding Graduate of the Year Award.
The Outstanding Graduate of the Year Award is granted to an Institute graduate who has demonstrated an outstanding level of performance, including their academic results, commitment to field of study, communication skills, interest in lifelong learning and personal goals.
Ms Dixon commenced study in 1998, setting out to complete an Advanced Diploma in Business (Accounting), consistently gaining distinctions and credits.
Despite Ms Dixon’s disability as a result of a car accident some years ago, she has completed a half load each year over 4 years whilst also being sole parent to her son.
Ms Dixon also took part in the Young Achievement Australia program. In this project she worked supportively and cooperatively with other students and worked tirelessly to help ensure its success, encouraging younger students to maintain their effort and interest.
During her studies Ms Dixon was responsible for maintaining the account records of her brother’s and cousins businesses. She was pleased that in a recent Australian Tax Officer audit that one of these businesses had the result of a nil adjustment, a result occurring in less than 10% of audits.
Since completing her Advanced Diploma, Ms Dixon has sought employment with a tax agent to satisfy the experience required to obtain a Tax Agents Certificate in her own right.
