Legendary Gippslanders
What a treat on International Women's Day to catch up with 102-year-old Kath Amey to celebrate her birthday. Kath lives at Stretton Park in Maffra these days but remains active and still enjoys reading and doing a daily crossword. Families across Gippsland will remember Kath from her decades of service as an infant welfare nurse in Sale.
Kath was actually born in Maffra and educated at Boisdale Estate School, then Maffra High School before working on the family farm, and then studying nursing. An intrepid traveller in her youth, Kath spent time working in the United Kingdom before returning to Maffra in the 1950s.
She's an inspiration to everyone who knows her after a life of service to our community. I'm not sure Kath will ever wear her '100% Authentic Gippslander' t-shirt but it seemed like a good gift for this amazing lady. Happy birthday.
