Mallacoota Gun Club revitalised with local support and $750,000 funding to rebuild facilities
Mallacoota Gun Club, aided by local support and a bushfire recovery grant, revitalised its facilities post-Black Summer fires, attracting more visitors.
Mallacoota Gun Club is aiming to attract more visitors and boost its membership after unveiling more than $750,000 worth of improvements to the facility. The club suffered extensive damage in the Black Summer bushfires and resolved to 'build back better' with a plan dubbed 'Phoenix'. With the assistance of local donors and a grant from the bushfire recovery program, the enthusiastic team of volunteers have delivered a major upgrade.

Community club rebuilding
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has congratulated the committee members on an outstanding result. "The great thing about our community and sporting groups is they don't give up in the face of adversity, and they just get stuff done.
"It took a lot of effort to secure grants and donations to begin the rebuilding process, but 'Phoenix' really has risen from the ashes of the bushfire disaster. The new facilities are better than anything the Mallacoota Gun Club members have enjoyed in the past, and I'm certain it will encourage more people to take up the sport and visit the facilities," Mr Chester said.
Mr Chester said the 'in kind' contributions and volunteer hours had leveraged extra value from the government grants process. "When you give a community group some money, they make the grant go a long way and actually add value with donated goods and volunteers contributing their time. The Mallacoota Gun Club members deserve to be congratulated for working with all levels of government and the business community to deliver this improved facility," Mr Chester said.
