Latrobe City Council is pleased to announce it has accepted a tender from Langden Constructions Pty Ltd for the construction of the Traralgon Recreation Reserve Multipurpose Pavilion. The Pavilion will be flood-proof to protect the facility from future weather events, and include change rooms for use by football, netball and cricket clubs, a kitchen, a social space and a boxing gym. The decision followed a comprehensive and competitive tender process, where Langden Constructions Pty Ltd scored highest in the evaluation process.

The $6.2 million project is funded by state and federal government programs, and Council’s capital works budget, following input from local clubs and Council representatives during the design process

Funding supports redevelopment

The project cost of $6.2 million is covered by state government funding, an allocation from the Federal government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program - Phase 4, and an allocation from council's capital works budget.

The final design for the Pavilion was established following an engagement process with a Project Reference Group which included members from the Traralgon Football and Netball Club, Ex Students Cricket Club, Traralgon Boxing Club, councillors and council officers.

As part of discussions with the Project Reference Group, it was decided a second netball court is also to be provided at the Traralgon Recreation Reserve, which will be funded through council's Public Open Space reserve.

Community resilience rebuilds

Mayor of Latrobe City Council, Councillor Darren Howe, said this project is a positive step towards restoring a venue that was severely impacted by weather events, and is a testament to the community's resilience. "The June 2021 flood and storm event caused catastrophic damage to this important community asset and has left community groups and sporting clubs displaced. I'd like to thank the user groups for their patience and for contributing ideas during the design development process."

"The contract with a local construction business marks a positive step towards rebuilding not only the facility, but the future of the Traralgon Recreation Reserve. It is important that we give this venue the justice it deserves and ensure it will be enjoyed by the whole community, including visitors, for many years to come," said the Mayor.

The Multipurpose Pavilion will cater to the Traralgon Football Netball Club, Traralgon Boxing Club, Ex Students Cricket Club and other potential tenants interested in using the spaces available. Read more about the state funding secured for this development at the Latrobe City Council website.
