Yarragon set for major upgrades with new pavilion and bridge works after council awards $3.9M contracts to Kubale Constructions Pty LtdYarragon will see major upgrades with a new $3.9 million sporting pavilion and bridge replacements, funded by the Council and government contributions, starting in January 2025 and completing by 2026. By news@gippsland - 6th December 2024 - Back to News Works for two important projects in Yarragon will get underway soon after Council awarded the contracts for these at its Council Meeting last week. The existing Dowton Park Sporting Pavilion will be replaced with a new, fit-for-purpose facility, with the current pavilion no longer able to meet the needs of local sporting groups. Kubale Constructions Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to undertake this project, valued at more than $3.9 million. 
Yarragon's $3.9 million pavilion and bridge upgrades will begin in January 2025, enhancing local sports facilities and infrastructure Sports pavilion upgradeThe works include (but are not limited to): - Demolition of the existing pavilion
- Demolition of existing coaches' box and reconstruction of new timekeeper's and coaches' box
- Construction of new coaches' box and timekeeper's room and new switchboard cupboard
- Relocation of the existing switchboard and the upgrade of the electrical wiring, including the provision of power to the netball rooms and other on-site existing facilities to remain
- Construction of a new pavilion including new car parking, concrete pavements, service connections and all works described in the design and design specifications
Council, as well as both the state and federal governments has made contributions towards this project, which is expected to get underway in January 2025 and estimated to be completed in March 2026. Yarragon facilities upgradesEast Ward Councillor Brendan Kingwill said this was a great outcome for the local community, particularly the Yarragon Football Club, Yarragon Junior Football Club, Yarragon Netball Club and the Yarragon Cricket Club, all of which are regular users of this facility. "Delivering outcomes like this for our residents and sporting clubs is a great part of what we do, and I am very proud to see this multimillion-dollar project come to fruition in 2025. It will have long lasting impacts for the broader Yarragon community and it's time this pavilion got the upgrade it so desperately needs. We also look forward to delivering further future opportunities in other areas of the community too," he said. At its meeting last week, Council also awarded the contract for major bridge works along Factory Road in Yarragon to Road & Bridge Pty Ltd. The existing timber decking and steel girder bridges across the Moe River and Contour Drain north of Yarragon at Factory Road will be replaced as part of this project. Bridge replacement projectEast Ward Councillor Kate Wilson said this project will mean a lot for people who have to use this bridge regularly, as the current structure is overdue for replacement. "The new modern replacements will be suitable for decades to come and mean our road users in the area can be more reassured that they will get to their destination safely," she said. Council has ensured measures are in place to guarantee that the current structure will still safely accommodate the traffic up until the new bridges are completed. This project is being partly funded under the federal government's Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program along with a contribution by Council.
