Half a day's work for a full day's keep
Volunteering in exchange for food, accommodation and learning is the basis of all WWOOFing.
Time spent volunteering varies according to the degree of self-sufficiency expected, the quality of accommodation offered and how busy the host is at the time of your visit along with other factors.
Volunteering should average out at about a half day's work for a full day's keep, with no more than 38 hours in any 7 days. |

How are your volunteer hours set?
We suggest that four to six hours a day of farming or gardening type volunteering is fair exchange for a days full board and accommodation.
Please note, because the hosts are farmers, they might ask you to help out a Saturday and Sunday, but most hosts will try to structure your time so you have a couple of full days off each week to explore the area. Meals and accommodation are provided on your free days too.
It is always a good idea to discuss expected volunteer hours before you arrive at the hosts property so you have no misunderstandings.

We are part of a global network of WWOOF Groups
WWOOF has been operating in Australia for over 40 years! WWOOF Hosts within Australia, as in many parts of the world, are mainly pursuing a simple and sustainable lifestyle.
Many are permaculture enthusiasts, and about 20 percent use bio-dynamic growing methods. Many hosts are on Hobby farms and some are on urban properties.
Around half of the farms in the WWOOF network are commercial producers, some are Certified Organic, most farms are small holdings, but there are also some larger farms.
Some of our hosts are alternative, co-operative communities, and a few are communal living groups.
