WWOOF - World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms
World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) is a form of cultural exchange in which WWOOFers live and work as family with host farms, learn about the skills of organic growing and the area they are visiting. WWOOF Australia and their hosts make travelling in Australia easy for 38 years, safe and more fun for both Australian and Overseas Visitors.
Volunteering in exchange for food and accommodation is the basis of all WWOOFing. Time spent working varies according to the degree of self-sufficiency expected, how busy the host is at the time of your visit and other factors - but it should average out at about a half day's work for a full day's keep. We suggest that 4 to 6 hours a day of farming/gardening type work is fair exchange for a days full board and accommodation, please note because the Hosts are farmers and might require you to help out a Saturday and Sunday, this is acceptable and you should work out your times before you arrive at the hosts property so you have no misunderstanding.
WWOOF Hosts within Australia, as in many parts of the world, are mainly pursuing a simple, sustainable, lifestyle. Many are permaculture enthusiasts, and about 20% use Bio-dynamic growing methods. About a quarter of the farms in the WWOOF App are commercial producers, whether full or part time. Some of our hosts are alternative, co-operative communities, and a few are communal living groups.
