Working Safely in the Sun

Training about the risks of sun exposure is now easier with the launch of ‘Working safely in the sun’, a national online training course from the SunSmart Program of the Cancer Council Australia.

The sun is a deadly risk for outdoor workers. UV radiation is a known carcinogen and an estimated 1.2 million Australian’s who work outdoors, face an increased risk of skin cancer.

The new resource, developed in partnership with iCourses is designed to provide employers across Australia with a flexible training option for ensuring outdoor workers and H&S professionals learn about the hazards of sun exposure in the workplace.

The course includes information on ultraviolet radiation, skin cancer and sun protection.

Let’s Stamp Out Bullying

In this course, school aged students develop an understanding of what bullying is and how to deal with it. The content is based on the Victorian Department of Education and Training "Safe Schools are Effective Schools Strategy".

After cementing this knowledge with online information and activities, students complete a confidential bullying survey and complete a course review to test their knowledge.

Schools also receive an optional free 5-lesson plan package to go with the online program.

Workplace Bullying and other unacceptable behaviours

This program is based on the 2003 WorkSafe Victoria Guidance Material "Prevention of Bullying and Violence at Work" and Human Rights Commission Information. A unique feature of this program is the online survey which gives employers a snap shot of the workplace culture and the ability to benchmark this information with general data.

The course enables trainees to:

• Recognise unacceptable workplace behaviours
• Prevent unacceptable workplace behaviours
• Deal effectively with unacceptable workplace behaviours

And provides employers with data to capture the workplace culture both within the organisation and as a comparison to other organisations.

OHS Initial Course

Based on WorkSafe OHS Initial Course learning objectives, this course ensures trainees:

• ·Apply your knowledge of OHS legislation, codes and standards to specific situations
• Understand the components and objectives of an OHSMS
• Identify, assess and control workplace hazards
• Investigate injuries, illnesses and incidents
• Consult effectively with all parties involved in OHS.

Modules can be purchased separately or as the full initial course.
