Local MP Darren Chester said Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust had received $100,000 of funding through the Risk and Resilience Grants Program. "Gippslanders have seen first hand the impact of bushfires and how long it takes for a region to recover so it is essential we do necessary work now to improve our resilience and minimise risk," Mr Chester said.

The Risk and Resilience Grants Program targets short term projects of up to 12 months, in some cases, consideration may be given for a longer duration up to 24 months if there is sufficient evidence to demonstrate the need for the longer duration

Prepared for bushfire events

Mr Chester said, "The project will include bushfire mitigation works to reduce existing risks and identify future disaster risk in the Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust area. Doing this work now means that our region is better prepared for bushfire events and can hopefully reduce the impact and devastation caused."

The Risk and Resilience Grants Program is part of the National Partnership Agreement on Disaster Risk Reduction, which aims to reduce the risk and impact of natural disasters in line with the National Disaster Risk Reduction Framework.
